Adele picked up 6 Grammy Awards this year becoming only the second female artist to win six awards in one night.
The 23-year-old won Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Short Form Music Video for Rolling in the Deep, Best Pop Solo Performance for Someone Like You and Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year for her album 21.
Adele basically won everything that she was nominated for and she totally deserves it!
21 is the second studio album by the English recording artist and was released in January 2011. The album was named after the age of the singer during production.
Adele began writing 21 in April 2009, while still involved in the relationship that subsequently inspired the record. The singer resumed production immediately after the breakdown of her relationship, channeling her heartbreak and depression into her songs.
Within a day of her break-up, she contacted producer Paul Epworth with the intention of capturing her emotion in a song. Together, they restructured the song, tweaking the lyrics to reflect Adele’s recent experience, and decided on the title “Rolling in the Deep”.
Adele learned from a mutual friend of her ex-lover’s engagement to someone else. In 10 minutes she composed most of the lyrics to the album’s final track “Someone Like You”.
Adele said she wrote Someone Like You to set herself free.
“Well, I wrote that song because I was exhausted from being such a bitch%2 with Rolling in the Deep or Rumor Has It. I was really emotionally drained from the way I was portraying him, because even though I’m very bitter and regret some parts of it, he’s still the most important person that’s ever been in my life, and Someone Like You I had to write it to feel OK with myself and OK with the two years I spent with him. And when I did it, I felt so freed.”
The best part is that Adele’s ex-boyfriend actually told her that he wants a cut of her royalties as a reward for inspiring the lyrics that featured on her album.
Adele said: “For about a week he was calling and was deadly serious about it. Finally, I said, ‘Well, you made my life hell, so I lived it and now I dese2ve it.'”
“He really thought he’d had some input into the creative process by being a prick. I’ll give him this credit — he made me an adult and put me on the road that I’m travelling.”
Adele says her ex-boyfriend changed her life in ways she never imagined.
